Action Research in Educational Leadership

Action research is a way of to problem solve and address issues that arise. According to the text, Leading with Passion and Knowledge: The Principal as a Researcher, action research is “the process of a principal engaging in systematic, intentional study of his/her own administrative practice and taking action for change based on what he/she learns as a result of the inquiry”(p. 2). Action research allows for tremendous professional growth for both teachers and administrator. Action research is NOT a library project conducted by one individual. Action research is a collaborative effort that aids in the overall improvement of an individual, a school and even an entire district. Finally, action research is about improving student achievement through effective teaching – which goes hand in hand with PDAS.
